Silvia Mezzanotte (born April 22, 1967 in Bologna ) is an Italian pop singer . She was temporarily the singer of the band Matia Bazar .

Career

After early experiences as a singer, Mezzanotte took part in the 1990 Sanremo Festival in the newcomer category with the song Sarai grande . The debut album of the same name followed . In the following years she worked with Laura Pausini , Francesco De Gregori , Andrea Bocelli and Mia Martini and went on tour with them. In 1999 she became the new singer of the Italian band Matia Bazar on the initiative of Giancarlo Golzi . With the band, she competed three times in a row at the Sanremo Festival between 2000 and 2002 (she won in 2002 with the song Messaggio d'amore ) and recorded three albums.

In 2004 Mezzanotte left Matia Bazar and returned to her solo career. Her second album was released in 2006 under the title Il viaggio . After working with Massimo Ranieri , with whom she also appeared on television, she released her next album, Lunatica , in 2008 , which hit the Italian charts for the first time. In 2010 there was a reunion with Matia Bazar; the group released a new album in 2011 and took part in the Sanremo Festival again in 2012. When Giancarlo Golzi died during a tour in 2015, the band ended their activities for the time being and Mezzanotte got out again.

After various activities in the theater and on television as well as international projects (most recently with Dionne Warwick ), the singer released the new album Aspetta un attimo in 2019 .
