Jenny B (* 20th July 1972 in Catania , Sicily , when Giovanna Bersola ) is an Italian pop and jazz singer .

Career

Bersola was born in Sicily to a Senegalese father and an Italian mother and was adopted by a family from Reggio nell'Emilia , where she grew up. She studied literature and philosophy at the University of Bologna as well as jazz singing with Tiziana Ghiglioni in Milan and received a scholarship for jazz singing at the University of California, Berkeley . As a teenager she also gained experience as a singer in pubs. She worked with Adriano Celentano , Ligabue and Zucchero and recorded two albums with Acid-Jazz between 1995 and 1997-Group Funky Company . In 1998 Jenny B was involved in the song Un attimo ancora , the debut single for Gemelli Diversi . The singer also gave her voice to several successful Eurodance projects, not least in the hit The Rhythm of the Night (1993).

Under the guidance of producer Claudio Donato, the singer presented the song Semplice sai in the newcomer category at the Sanremo Festival 2000 , the lyrics of which she had written herself. The entry not only won, but also earned Jenny B the Critics' Award. This was followed by the single Toccami l'anima and in November of that year her first solo album Come un sogno . In 2001 she returned to Sanremo with Anche tu , this time finishing sixth in the main category. In addition, she mainly recorded duets, for example with Alan Sorrenti , and appeared in various television programs. In 2006 she took part in the reality show Music Farm on Rai 2 , where she was awarded the Critics' Prize.

Jenny B continued to work in the jazz sector and in 2007 she released the live jazz album Jenny B in Concert . In 2011 the album Esta soy yo followed , on which she brought together sacred music and Cuban sounds. She worked with various jazz musicians, such as the trombonist Gianluca Petrella and the trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso .
