The Rhythm of the Night is a Eurodance song by the Italian band Corona from 1993. It became a worldwide hit in 1994 and paved the way for a short-lived but very successful career for the band. The song has since been covered and sampled successfully several times .
history
The song was written in 1993 by Giorgio Spagna (the brother of Ivana Spagna ), Francesco Bontempi and Annerley Gordon and produced by Lee Marrow (the stage name of Bontempi, also known under the pseudonyms Checco and Soul Train ). It borrows some elements (including the melodies of the verses) from the song Save Me by the band Say When! , whose authors Pete Glenister and Michael Gaffey were also listed in the credits. The vocals were provided by Giovanna Bersola (known as Jenny B , she was the singer on Playahitty at the time ), but she was neither mentioned in the credits nor did she appear in the music video. Instead, the model Olga de Souza was hired as the face of Corona.
The song was released on November 4, 1993, initially only in Italy (on the DWA label by Roberto Zanetti ), Spain (with Blanco y Negro Music ), Germany (with ZYX Music ) and Greece (with ToCo International ). It rose in the third chart week in 1994 to 13th place in the Italian charts of M & D and reached in the fifth week, the top position . It stayed there for eight weeks. It was placed for a total of 33 weeks.
After the initial success in Italy, an international publication followed. At the same time, several remix versions were released, including the Space Remix with additional rap parts by Ice MC . The first country to be placed in the chart was France, where it rose to number 27 in early March 1994. Various other countries around the world followed. In Great Britain and the Canadian dance charts, the song was able to reach second place, in France, Ireland and Spain third place. Another number one placement was not achieved outside of Italy.
After the song disappeared from the British charts again at the end of January 1995 , the follow-up single Baby Baby was released in March 1995 , which was only able to build on the success of its predecessor in a few countries (including her home country and Great Britain).
