Ice MC is the dance floor project of the British singer and rapper Ian Colin Campbell. He was supported by the singer Jasmin Heinrich until 1994, then by Alessia Aquilani . The debut single Easy was the first chart hit in 1989 .
Career
Ian Campbell grew up in Hyson Green near Nottingham . During his high school years , the initials 'I' and 'C' became the nickname 'Ice', which he later interpreted as 'Ian Campbell Esquire'. After graduating from high school, the son of Jamaican parents spent some time near his hometown before joining a breakdance crew in 1983 , with whom he toured Europe and came to Florence , Italy . It was there in 1989 that I made contact with Roberto Zanetti alias Robyx, an Italian musician and producer who u. a. became known as Savage .
The result of the joint work was Campbell's debut single Easy , which was released under the name Ice MC. Jasmin Heinrich initially took over the vocal part. The title reached high placements in the European charts , e. B. 5th place in Italy and 3rd place in Germany. The follow-up singles Cinema and Scream were also successful. The accompanying album Cinema was released in 1990. Because Hip House was no longer very popular in 1991, the second Ice MC album remained a slow hit.
The third studio album Ice 'n' Green was released in 1994. Alessia Aquilani took over the female vocals . The extracts Take Away the Color , Think About the Way , which was also part of the soundtrack for Trainspotting - Neue Helden , and It's a Rainy Day were represented in the charts worldwide. The new raggamuffin style was even in demand in the USA , where radio broadcasts were frequent. In 1995 new versions of the well-known hit singles on Ice 'n' Green - The Remix album hit stores. That same year, Campbell and Robyx had an argument, whereupon the two separated.
The 1996 album Dreadatour was produced by various teams, including a. by Masterboy and Nosie Katzmann . The lead singer was Valentina Ducros . The first single Give Me the Light climbed middle chart positions in some countries, the second single Music for Money was unsuccessful.
In 2002 Campbell returned to Italy to work with Robyx again. It wasn't until 2004 that his new studio album Cold Skool was released . Michelle Weeks and Sarah Grimaldi took care of the vocals. In August 2012, the new single Out Tonight was released , which he recorded with singer Giulia Gal.
Since 2013 Campbell has been participating in 90s festivals again as Ice MC.
