Hermes House Band
The Hermes House Band (HHB for short) is a Dutch pop group that has also become popular in German-speaking countries through cover versions .
The band
The Hermes House Band was founded in 1984 as a purely Dutch cover and party combo at the time. It emerged from the Rotterdamsch Student Corps (RSC); the band name is derived from the Rotterdam student association Sociëteit Hermes . After the founding members finished their studies in 1989, the band was about to break up. As a solution, the band members who had finished their studies were quickly replaced by new ones, which is still the case today. In 1994 the then keyboardist and a former bassist founded the label Xplo Music to release their version of I Will Survive . In order not to lose their roots, another album with self-written songs in Dutch followed in 1997, with which the band decided against professionalization.
After I Will Survive was in the French charts again in 1997 and 1998, the Hermes House Band International (short: HHB International) was founded in 1999 by Xplo Music on the idea of the current manager and former member of the band, Eugene Lont, to also internationalize To be able to serve inquiries for promotion and concerts without having to let a constantly changing cast of students travel. This consisted of the former members Judith Ansems, Jop Wijlacker and Robin Maas. In the summer of 2018 the song I Will Survive reached number 1 in France after the victory of the French national team at the World Cup in Russia .
The final breakthrough in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Great Britain took place in 2001 with Country Roads .
After Judith Ansems withdrew from the band in 2005 because of her third child, her previous substitute, Sally Flissinger, took her place. In the summer of 2006, the first greatest hits album finally followed . In 2009 the band went back to their roots and released the album Rhythm of the Nineties.
In December 2012, the previous singer Robin Maas left the band at his own request.
music
The international breakthrough came in 1999 with a rhythmic, cover version of Gloria Gaynor's Title I Will Survive (already # 1 in the Netherlands. 1995). This was followed by cover versions of John Denver's Country Roads , Doris Days Que Sera, Sera (2001) and Live Is Life (collaboration with DJ Ötzi ). The collaboration with British pop singer Tony Christie brought a big boost . Is This the Way to Amarillo? was reissued together with him and released as a pop- oriented party version.
