Tony Christie
Tony Christie (real name: Anthony Fitzgerald ; born April 25, 1943 in Conisbrough , South Yorkshire ) is an English musician , singer and actor .
biography
The tenor Tony Christie already released records in November 1967 , but it wasn't until the single Las Vegas , released in January 1971 on MCA Records , composed and produced by the team of writers Mitch Murray and Peter Callander , that his breakthrough came. Many of the following singles and LPs were composed and produced by this team. His greatest hits in the 1970s were (Is This the Way To) Amarillo? and I Did What I Did for Maria (both 1971).
In the 1980s there were no further commercial successes. In Germany, Christie had some successes again from 1990 onwards, especially with the two albums produced by Jack White , Welcome to My Music (1991) and Welcome to My Music 2 (1992). There was a comeback in Great Britain in 1999 when he returned to the top ten of the singles charts along with The All Seeing I and a new recording of Walk Like a Panther .
In March 2005, Christie had his second number one hit in the UK. 34 years after it was first published, (Is This the Way To) Amarillo? the official single of the charity campaign Comic Relief and entered the UK charts on March 26, 2005 at number 1. At the same time, the best-of album The Definitive Collection was released , which was number 1 in the charts for seven weeks and was awarded double platinum . In 2006 an album called Simply in Love was released . Another studio album followed in November 2008 with Made in Sheffield .
In June 2009 Tony Christie appeared for the first time at the annual Glastonbury Festival , the "English Woodstock ". In 2011 the album Now's the Time was released , in 2012 the album Best Of - The greatest hits from 50 years .
In October 2019, a new album called Pop Nonsense and his first official autobiography called Tony Christie - The Singer appeared at the same time .
