3LAU
3LAU (born January 9, 1991 in Syosset , Nassau County , New York ; actually Justin Blau ) is an American DJ and producer in the field of Progressive House and Electro House .
Life
Blau comes from a family of artists, his grandfather was a sound engineer for Jimi Hendrix , his mother a dancer on Broadway and his father made his living as a magician. He learned to use the piano and the guitar at an early age . At age 13, he moved to Las Vegas , Nevada with his family ; where he spent the rest of his youth. He attended The Meadows School there and then studied at Washington University in St. Louis . 2011. While on vacation in Sweden , he discovered electronic music and on his return to the United States began making mashups and spending the nights DJing. He gave himself the stage name 3LAU and published some of these first works on YouTube . These went viral and popularized it in the internet community via YouTube and Facebook . He also had initial successes with his bootlegs from Girls Who Save the World and All Night Long . He also won a remix contest for Tiësto's Work Hard, Play Hard . Some of his works achieved high placements on Beatport and The Hype Machine .
Since 2011 he has published his bootleg series Dance Floor Filth , which consists of four parts until 2014. Since part 2 (2012) these have also included their own productions with guitar and piano samples as well as official remixes and mashups. Top DJs like Bob Sinclar , Hardwell and Porter Robinson added some pieces to their repertoire. At the same time he went on the 3LAU Your Mind Tour, followed by the Night Riot Tour together with Carnage. This was followed by further single releases on well-known labels such as Revealed Recordings and Spinnin Records . Since 2013 he has also been seen increasingly at major festivals such as the Ultra Music Festival or the Electric Daisy Carnival .
In 2014 a collaboration with Botnek appeared with Vikings on the Dim Mak label. In 2014 3LAU was voted 81 in the DJ Mag Top 100 of the best DJs.
3LAU is not only active as a DJ, he also supports the Pencils of Promise project . A part of his tour money and his download proceeds will be diverted and invested in setting up schools in Guatemala .
Music genre
3LAU's music is characterized by a whole range of influences and works across genres, including mashups, house and dubstep and often uses guitar and piano sounds. He works mainly with programs from Ableton . In his live shows he uses mashups, electro house , pop vocal samples and samples from the 1990s.
