Richard Tyler Blevins (* 5. June 1991 in Detroit , Michigan ), better known under his online - pseudonym Ninja (formerly Ninja Hyper ), an American Webvideoproduzent , streamers and professional e-sports . In June 2019, he was the world's most followed streamer on Twitch with over 15 million followers (including 50,000 active viewers per week). He has over 24 million subscribers on YouTube (as of August 2020) and over 5.9 million on Twitter (as of June 2020).

Life

Blevins was born to American parents of Welsh descent in the city of Detroit . When he was one year old, he moved to Chicago with his family . He attended Grayslake Central High School and often played soccer and video games with his friends. After finishing school he decided to play professionally video games to e-sports attend tournaments and stream their games live. Before living as a streamer and successful e-athlete, Blevins went to school at Silver Lake College and worked on the side at a fast-casual restaurant belonging to the Noodles & Company chain.

In 2018, he made around $ 10 million by streaming the video game Fortnite on Twitch. Blevins is married to streamer and manager Jessica Blevins.

Career

E-athletes

He started playing Halo 3 professionally in 2009 . He played for various teams such as Cloud 9 , Renegades, Team Liquid and Luminosity Gaming .

Due to his success on Twitch, he organized the first e-sports event with the game Fortnite as a discipline at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2018 on June 12, 2018 . Several celebrities competed against each other for a good cause at the event. (Charity) The winner was Ninja and his teammate, the musician Marshmello , who has already given concerts in Fortnite. At the Fortnite World Cup 2019 , he was eliminated in the qualifiers.

Livestreamer

Due to his gaming and esports experience, Blevins eventually became a streamer in 2011. He started streaming gameplays from the game H1Z1 and then moved to PUBG . He later started streaming Fortnite on a regular basis and his viewership began to grow, which was helped by the game's growing popularity. In September 2017 he had around 500,000 followers, in the following six months this number grew by a good 250 percent.

On August 1, 2019, Ninja announced that it would switch from Amazon's Twitch to the comparatively less popular live stream platform Mixer from Microsoft and stream exclusively there. At weddings, he had around 250,000 paying subscribers on Twitch. After just one week, he reached over a million subscribers on the platform, four times the number on Twitch. However, a free trial month is also possible, which means that only a few subscribers have paid.

Due to his successful Fortnite livestreams, he received his own skin with 4 variations in the game in January 2020 .

With the book Ninja: Get Good he wants to give players tips for streaming, the right equipment, building a clan and e-sports. The book Ninja: The Most Dangerous Game , on the other hand, is a graphic novel that tells how Ninja himself ends up in a battle royale game. The last book is a mixture of a notebook and an artbook .

Advertising character

Electronic Arts paid him up to $ 1 million per Apex Legends live stream for advertising purposes . The energy drink Red Bull also advertises ninja on the cans. He entered into another advertising deal with Adidas , who released a sneaker dedicated to him .

The Masked Singer

In September 2019, Ninja took part in the second season of the US version of The Masked Singer as Ice Cream and was the second of the 16 participants in the first episode.

Controversy

In October 2018, Blevins reported a player in Fortnite because they had a higher ping than they did. This triggered a shit storm on the Internet a little later .

In November 2018, Blevins reported a player for stream sniping . This also later triggered a shit storm in the network.

Blevins testified in 2018 that he did not want to play with women in order to protect his marriage from possible rumors arising. Some people criticized that his exclusion of women was sexist.

The sports magazine ESPN called him the Biggest Gamer in the World on the cover page. He was also the first e-athlete to be mentioned in the sports magazine. He also made Time magazine's list of 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2019 .

Fundraisers

The prize money at the e-sports tournament at E3 2018, which he won together with Marshmello for donations, was one million US dollars.
