Artbook

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Artbooks are merchandising products for animes , mangas , cartoons or video games in which colored motifs or previously unpublished drawings for the respective series are published.

Artbooks are usually produced in a larger format, often 24 cm × 30 cm, and often contain glossy color pages that are printed in high quality. Some of the images used in art books are drawn especially for them. An artbook usually also contains a black and white section that contains drafts of characters, backgrounds, storyboards and the like, which are intended to convey an overall impression of the artistic work behind an anime or manga.

Photo books and film comics , in which images of the anime are reproduced, are also widespread ; in the latter, the images are supplemented with speech bubbles (see also anime comics ). Photo books are often printed in paperback format.
