The MP3 files are usually encoded with 320 kbit / s ( LAME codec), the MP4 files with 192 kbit / s VBR. The uncompressed AIFF format has also been available since November 2011 . For WAV / AIFF files, a flat fee of 0.75 euros per piece of music is charged.

history

Beatport has been a partner of Native Instruments since September 2004 . Their DJ software Traktor3 was able to access the webshop directly to preview, buy and then download pieces of music. It was not necessary to open the browser . This is no longer possible since the switch from Traktor3 to Traktor Pro.

In August 2008, procured GEMA at the Mannheim Regional Court an injunction against Beatport because of differences in licensing.

In an interview with de: Bug magazine in 2007, company founder Eloy Lopez said that the data volume for the music archive comprised 30 terabytes and 270,000 titles. Of the income from all titles, 40 percent went to Beatport and 60 percent to labels and artists. He presented the pricing policy as follows: € 1.30 for older tracks, € 1.56 for current titles and € 2.17 for offers with an exclusive license.

In February 2019 Beatport announced a joint venture with the digital record pool DJcity and founded Beatsource, a download and streaming platform for open-format DJs. At the time, Beatport had 450,000 active DJ customers and 35 million visitors a year. In August 2019, producer / DJ A-Trak joined the board as a consultant.
