Winter Music Conference
The Winter Music Conference ( WMC for short ) is an annual event in Miami that deals exclusively with the topic of electronic dance music . It was first held in 1985 . In the meantime it had developed into the largest event of its kind and became a meeting point for many professionals (such as music producers , DJs , video artists, label operators, talent scouts etc.) and interested parties from over 60 countries. The majority of those present (65%) were from the United States, 24% from Europe and 5% from Canada.
Since the Ultra Music Festival is no longer held as part of the WMC, the relevance and popularity of the fair has fallen sharply. In March 2018 there was even talk of a silent "death", as there was no information about this year's WMC until shortly before the start of Miami Music Week . In 2018, to the surprise of many, the event took place at the Faena Forum in Miami Beach and lasted three days.
The program of the trade fair is determined by discussion forums, demonstrations and shows, lectures and dance events with internationally established artists as well as newcomers from the scene.
In total, over 500 events took place as part of the Winter Music Conference. The main event at the WMC is the International Dance Music Awards . The biggest party and official closing event until 2010 was the two-day Ultra Music Festival with 100,000 visitors over two days. However, since the Winter Music Conference 2011 took place two weeks earlier than before, the Ultra Music Festival was held outside the conference time for the first time. In 2009 a VJ Challenge was held for the first time . In 2012 the conference and the Ultra Music Festival took place again in the same week. However, the festival now remains an independent event and is no longer part of the conference. In the meantime, the Winter Music Conference functions only as an event within the now quite popular Miami Music Week , which popularly markets all of the events of the EDM scene, so the Ultra Music Festival also counts as an event within the Miami Music Week.
In March 2018 it was announced that the WMC had been bought by the Ultra Music Festival.
The next WMC will take place in Miami from March 25th to 28th.
