Estelle Fanta Swaray (born January 18, 1980 in London ), stage name Estelle , is a British hip-hop singer and voice actress.

Career

Estelle was born in West London in 1980. She is one of eight children of a Senegalese mother and a father from Grenada .

Estelle founded her own label, Stellar Ents, and released the mixtapes Da Heat Part 1 and Da Heat Part 2 . After these were successful in the scene, the first studio album The 18th Day followed in 2004 with the single releases in 1980 , Free and Go Gone , which all reached the top 40 of the British charts. In the same year she was also part of the Band Aid 20 charity project .

In 2008 their second album Shine was released , on which the artists will.i.am , Wyclef Jean , Mark Ronson , Cee-Lo Green , Swizz Beatz and John Legend have guest appearances. She is supported by Kanye West on the first single American Boy , which uses the same beat as will.i.ams Impatient from his album Songs About Girls . In Great Britain it conquered number 1 on the charts. In October 2008 she released another single, Come Over, a duet with Sean Paul .

From 2013 to 2019 she can be heard as Garnet in the series Steven Universe .

In 2015 and 2017 she had guest appearances on the series Empire as Delphine (seasons 1 and 3).
