Cardinal Offishall (born May 11, 1976 in Scarborough , Toronto , Ontario ; real life Jason Harrow ) is a Canadian rapper .

biography

Jason Harrow, whose parents immigrated to Canada from Jamaica , grew up in the city of Toronto and began rapping as a child. At the age of twelve he won his first competitions. He chose the "cardinal" in his name in reference to the French Cardinal Richelieu .

At the age of 20 he released his first single Naughty Dread , which earned him a nomination for the Canadian Juno Award in the rap category. The following year he was represented in the hit Northern Touch by Rascalz , which was of great importance for Canadian hip-hop .

In 2001 the album Quest for Fire: Firestarter, Vol. 1 was released , which brought him the breakthrough in his homeland. It spawned several successful singles. With the album and the single BaKardi Slang , he was also able to place himself in the US hip-hop charts across borders . Today Cardinal Offishall is one of the most popular hip-hop musicians in Canada.

In 2003 Jason Harrow had his first success outside of North America when he raped the Scottish band Texas' single Carnival Girl and became known across Europe. In 2008 he intensified his international career and began working with international musicians such as Shawnna , Tyree , T-Pain , Estelle and Akon . With the support of the latter, he also achieved his first own international success in 2008 with the title Dangerous , which hit the charts in Europe and the USA.
