Scarborough [ ˈskɑɹˌbəɹoʊ̯ ] is the easternmost borough of Toronto and a former city. The Scarborough area covers an area of 187.70 square kilometers. In the 2001 census, the population was 593,297. According to statistics, the population of Scarborough grew 6% annually between 1996 and 2001, which is the highest increase in Toronto. The district was named in 1796 by Elizabeth Simcoe after the Scarborough Bluffs , a rocky landscape on the shores of Lake Ontario that reminded Simcoe of her home in Scarborough in England. The city was founded on January 1, 1850 and incorporated into Toronto in June 1983.
Scarborough is bounded by Victoria Park Avenue to the west, the Rouge River to the east, Little Rouge Creek to the east, Steeles Avenue East to the north and Lake Ontario to the south.
The Toronto Zoo is located in Scarborough . A large part of the Rouge National Urban Park is also located in the city district.
history
In the 17th century, the Seneca population , an Indian tribe belonging to the Iroquois Federation, settled in the area. This was driven out by the Mississauga who settled there from Europe, mainly from the United Kingdom. In 1793 the number of settlers increased continuously, especially from Europe. The first settlers were David and Andrew Thomson . You worked in the first parliaments of York , Canada. In 1832 the first post office opened in Scarborough Village. During the first few years in Canada, the first local administrations started operating. The administrative and judicial authorities were subordinate to the colonizing government.
population
In 2006 the population was 602,575. A study using data from 1996 to 2001 found that the population increased by as much as 6%, leading to the strongest growth in the Toronto area. A significant proportion of the city's population are immigrants who have recently settled in Canada, but also immigrants who settled there four decades ago.
education
The Toronto City Schools Board has been responsible for public schools since 1998. The city has 10 elementary schools and around 30 secondary and high schools from grades 5–12.

Scarborough is a suburb of Toronto, which also has an impact on the city's economy. The district benefits from Toronto's economic strength.
