Michael Paul "Mike" Johnson (born October 3, 1974 in Scarborough , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 683 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs , Tampa Bay Lightning , Phoenix Coyotes , Canadiens de Montréal and St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League on the position of right winger . In 1998, Johnson was elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team .
Career
Mike Johnson began his career in 1992 with the Aurora Eagles , a team from the US junior division Metro Junior Hockey League . From 1993 to 1997 he played for the college team of Bowling Green State University in the league operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . There the undrafted right-handed shooter scored 62 scorer points in 38 games in his last season and also played for the first time in the National Hockey League this year . Overall, the winger played for the Toronto Maple Leafs for three years, continuously increasing his points. In the 1997/98 season , the Canadian was the second best rookie scorer and was elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team . 1999 Johnson reached the semifinals of the Stanley Cup with the team . During the 1999/2000 season , the attacker was transferred from the Maple Leafs to the Tampa Bay Lightning , where he did not stay long. In the following 2000/01 season , the striker moved on to the Phoenix Coyotes , where he was able to build on his successful time in Toronto. 2003 Johnson had his most successful year in the NHL with 63 points from 82 games.
The lockout - 2004/05 spent the Canadians at Färjestad BK in the Swedish Elitserien and was able to win the Swedish runner. In the 2005/06 season , the attacker reached 54 scorer points in 80 games with the Coyotes, but again missed the play-offs with the team and therefore moved to the Canadiens de Montréal for a year in the summer . After another change for the 2007/08 season to the St. Louis Blues , Johnson injured and could only complete 21 games in which he scored five points. In total, Johnson has played 683 NHL games so far, scoring 133 goals and 249 assists.
Motivated by the recommendation of his friend and former teammate Todd Warriner , Johnson decided to move to Europe again in summer 2008 and signed an annual contract with the Kölner Haien . After inadequate performance with only 13 scorer points from 28 games in the league, the Haie released him from the game on December 29, 2008 and deleted him from the squad. In January 2009, his contract was terminated by mutual agreement, whereupon the 34-year-old ended his active career.
