Ludwig Heimrath junior also Ludwig Heimrath, Jr. (born September 9, 1956 in Scarborough (Toronto) ) is an entrepreneur, driving safety trainer and former Canadian racing driver .

Career

Ludwig Heimrath, Jr. began his racing career in the late 1970s.

In 1980 he and his father of the same name competed in a Porsche 935 in the GTX class in two races of the IMSA GT championship . At the 6-hour race in Mosport , which was also part of the manufacturers' world championship , he finished 19th in a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR together with Brian Hardacre and Jon Reski for the Climax-Racing team .

In the following year he started for his father’s Heimrath Racing team in races in the brand world championship, IMSA-GT and the Trans-Am championship . In the IMSA GT Championship, he drove for the first time in the 24-hour races in Daytona and 12-hour races in Sebring . In Daytona he and his father drove a Porsche 935 to 14th place overall, while at Sebring they both retired early due to an accident. Heimrath, Jr. started in the Trans-Am with a Porsche 924 Carrera GTR in the GTO class. There he achieved a sixth place in the race in Mosport as the best result. In 1982 he only used the Porsche 924 Carrera GTR in IMSA and Trans-Am races. However, he mostly retired early because of engine problems. The best result of the year was an 11th place in the 3-hour Daytona final in the IMSA GT Championship.

In 1983 he only competed in sports car races in the IMSA GT Championship. There he and his father drove a Porsche 934 in the GTO class. In the same year he drove his first and only endurance race in Le Mans . Together with David Deacon and Jacques Villeneuve, Sr. , he drove a Sehcar SH C6 in Group C for Team Brun Motorsport - but had to end the race early due to clutch problems.

In the 1984 season he started only in a few IMSA GT races. He achieved his best result together with Werner Frank in the 500-mile race of Road America in a Porsche 935/80 with 11th place. In 1985 Heimrath, Jr. competed for Team Truesports in the group C racing car Alba AR5 in the GTP class of the IMSA GT series. At the 500 km race in Columbus, he and Jim Trueman achieved fourth place as the best result. His greatest success in his career was fourth place together with his father and Kees Kroesemeijer in the 1000 km race of Mosport in the manufacturers' world championship in a Porsche 956 from the Kremer Racing team .

In the following year he started again with a Porsche 944 Turbo in some races of the Trans-Am championship. However, he was unable to finish a race successfully due to failures. In 1986 he drove only one race in the IMSA GT championship with Elliot Forbes-Robinson in a Nissan GTP ZX-T at the 500 km race in Mid-Ohio and came in seventh.

After a few years of interruption, Ludwig Heimrath, Jr. started again in the 24-hour endurance races in Daytona and Sebring in 1993 and 1994. At the 24 Hours of Daytona he finished the race in a Porsche 944 Turbo for the Scott Clarke team in 19th place overall and sixth in the INV GT class. He had to end his last race in Daytona in 1994 because of a technical defect in the vehicle.

In his racing career Heimrath, Jr. also drove formula races. In 1983 and 1984 he started with a Ralt RT5 in the Formula Super Vee USA and finished fifth in 1983 and fourth in the annual ranking in 1984.

In 1984 and 1985 he drove one race each in the CART Champ Car Series . From 1987 to 1989 he started for the Mackenzie Financial team with a Lola racing car . However, he could only finish a few races.

After leaving motorsport, Heimrath, Jr. worked together with his wife, Kathy Rude , who was also a racing driver, as a driving safety trainer and instructor for Audi . He is the managing director of the composite material manufacturer All-Composite Inc.
