Thomas M. Muller

Thomas M. Müller (born October 15, 1966 in Gera ), actually Thomas Matthaeus Müller, is a German graphic artist and illustrator . He teaches as a professor of illustration at the University of Graphic and Book Art (HGB) in Leipzig .

Thomas M. Müller studied at the HGB in the typography class with Gert Wunderlich and at the Cantonal School of Design in Lucerne . After graduating in 1993, he was a master student of Karl-Georg Hirsch . After completing his studies, Thomas M. Müller worked as a freelancer for the Antje Kunstmann publishing house , the Gutenberg book guild and the Carl Hanser publishing house , among others .

From 2002 to 2004 Thomas M. Müller was visiting professor for illustration at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle (Saale) and from 2004 to 2007 he was a substitute professor at the University of Graphics and Book Art in Leipzig. In the 2007/2008 winter semester, he was appointed to the HGB as the successor to Volker Pfüller .

Thomas M. Müller is known for his colorful, flat graphics. His book illustrations have won several awards, including a bronze medal in the Most Beautiful Books from All Over the World competition (for food. What children need, Gutenberg Book Guild ) and in 2005 with the first prize from the Book Art Foundation (for Ilka comes to Merkur with a deer, Connewitzer Publishing bookstore ). In 2013, the edition of Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep, illustrated by Müller, appeared in the Book Guild Edition, as well as the cardboard picture book What flies by so quickly? at Moritz Verlag.

He is the son of the illustrator, graphic designer and art professor Rolf F. Müller .
