York [ jɔɹk ] is the second smallest of the six boroughs of Toronto with an area of 23.18 square kilometers . York was founded on January 1, 1850 and was merged in 1998 in the course of the merger of other districts into the “ megacity ” of Toronto. York has 143,255 inhabitants (2006 census). The demographic breakdown of York's population is 61.0% white, 14.4% black and 5.8% Latin American.
