Nathan Robinson (born December 31, 1981 in Scarborough , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with EHC Bayreuth in the DEL2 since January 2017 .
Career
After his career in the Canadian junior league Ontario Hockey League began in 1998 and he was able to conclude the 2001/02 season as the most successful top scorer by winning the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy and a place in the league's all-star team, Robinson moved to the North American professional league East Coast Hockey League and received a little later an NHL contract. At the Detroit Red Wings, Robinson was initially only used by their farm team , the Grand Rapids Griffins . At the Griffins, Robinson was able to convince in his second year after a mixed season and was one of the top performers in the team. He scored 50 points scorer in 69 games and also had a plus / minus statistic of +8. In the subsequent play-offs, his team was eliminated in the division semifinals with 2: 3 against the Chicago Wolves . Robinson came on three missions in which he could not achieve a scorer point. Robinson made his first five appearances in the NHL in the 2003/04 season for the Red Wings. After two more years in the American Hockey League , the left shooter moved to the 2005/06 season for the Boston Bruins, for which he was only used twice. As in Detroit , he was mostly on the farm team. In 70 games for the Providence Bruins from the AHL, he scored 60 points and was one of the strikers with the highest points in the team.
After his contract was not extended at the end of the season and he figured out hardly any chances of a permanent commitment in the NHL, he forced a move to Europe. There those responsible at Adler Mannheim noticed the then 24-year-old and transferred him to the German Ice Hockey League for the 2006/07 season . Robinson was one of the top performers and won the German championship of 2007 with the Adler in his first season . In addition, he was voted into the DEL All-Star Team by the fans. As a result, he was courted by some DEL clubs and decided in the summer of 2007 to move to the German capital to the Eisbären Berlin . With the polar bears he was able to win the German championship again just a year later and was the top scorer of the play-offs. In 13 games he scored 15 points and thus had a large share in the triumph of Berlin. The tech-savvy attacking player was also nominated for the second time for the DEL All-Star Game , which took place in Dresden .
For the 2009/10 season he returned to Adler Mannheim , where his contract, which ran until 2012, was terminated on January 10, 2011 by mutual agreement. Two weeks later, Robinson was signed by the Finnish first division club Espoo Blues and was there on the ice until the end of the 2010/11 season in the SM Liiga .
On September 27, 2011, he signed a contract with Vienna Capitals for the 2011/12 season . In the summer of 2012, Robinson initially received a trial contract for the duration of the season preparation with the Kölner Haien , which was extended in September 2012 for the 2012/2013 season. On January 23, 2014 he was released from training and play operations by the Kölner Haien and then completed a two-week trial training ( try-out ) at EHC Biel , which, however, decided against a firm commitment from the Canadian. In the summer of 2014 Robinson decided for an engagement with the Nottingham Panthers in the Elite Ice Hockey League , where he played until November of the same year. In February 2015, the Canadian joined the Belfast Giants and ended the 2014/15 season there. He has been under contract with HC Slavia Prague since summer 2015 and has been playing in the second-class first division there since the 2015/16 season .
In January 2017 Robinson signed a contract with EHC Bayreuth until the end of the 2016/2017 season.
