The Canadian Hockey League (short: CHL , French Ligue canadienne de hockey , short: LCH ) is the umbrella organization of the three top Canadian junior ice hockey leagues . The Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ), Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and Western Hockey League (WHL) report to it.

Players between the ages of 15 and 20 are eligible to play, although the right to play is not limited to Canadians, but they make up the vast majority of players. However, each team has the option of using three players who are at least 20 years old at the start of the season. These are called "Overage" juniors. European players will be accepted into the leagues through the CHL Import Draft . 52 Canadian and 8 US teams play in the Ontario Hockey League, the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec and the Western Hockey League. At the end of the season, the champions of the leagues mentioned and the hosts of the tournament play the Memorial Cup .

The sports association, based in Scarborough, Ontario, was founded in 1975.
