Brian Kilrea Coach of the Year Award
The Brian Kilrea Coach of the Year Award (dt. Coach of the Year ) is an award from the Canadian Hockey League . He has been awarded to the best coach in the three major Canadian junior leagues since the end of the 1987/88 season. The winner is the Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy (best coach in the Western Hockey League ), the Matt Leyden Trophy (best coach in the Ontario Hockey League ) and the Trophée Ron Lapointe (best coach in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League ).
Until 2003 the trophy was called the CHL Coach of the Year Award before it was named after Brian Kilrea . With the exception of three seasons, Kilrea has been coaching the Ottawa 67’s in the Ontario Hockey League since 1974, longer than any other coach in the history of Canadian junior ice hockey . He himself was a five-time winner of the Matt Leyden Trophy and won the trophy for best coach in the Canadian Hockey League once.
