The Red Deer Rebels are a Canadian junior ice hockey team from Red Deer , Alberta that plays in the Western Hockey League . The franchise plays its home games in the ENMAX Centrium .

history

The team was founded in 1992, but the Rebels only played really successfully in the new millennium, when they won the title of the WHL Eastern Conference three times in a row between 2001 and 2003. In 2001 they also won the championship of the WHL and finally crowned the season with the victory of the Memorial Cup , the championship of the umbrella organization CHL , which is played annually between the champions of the three Canadian top junior leagues WHL, OHL and QMJHL . In the final, Doug Lynch scored the decisive overtime goal against the Val-d'Or Foreurs .

The coach, general manager, president and owner Brent Sutter was also successful as coach of the Canadian junior national team at the 2005 and 2006 World Cups during his time at Red Deer . For the 2007/08 season, his brother Brian took over the position of coach and GM with the Rebels.
