Brett Darryl Sutter (born June 2, 1987 in Viking , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been with the Ontario Reign in the American Hockey League since February 2016 . His father Darryl was also a professional ice hockey player, as were six other members of the Sutter family.
Career
Brett Sutter began his career as a hockey player in Canada's top junior league Western Hockey League , where he was active from 2003 to 2007 for the Kootenay Ice and Red Deer Rebels . During this time, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2005 in the sixth round as a total of 179 players by the Calgary Flames .
After the attacker had played in the 2007/08 season exclusively for the then Calgarys farm team from the American Hockey League , the Quad City Flames , he made his debut in the National Hockey League for on December 23, 2008 in the game against the Anaheim Ducks the Calgary Flames. He scored his first goal on his first NHL mission. In the same season Sutter was three more times for the Flames in the NHL on the ice, the rest of the season he spent again in the AHL with the Quad City Flames. In the 2009/10 season , the Canadian played parallel for the Calgary Flames in the NHL, as well as for their new AHL farm team Abbotsford Heat . In November 2010 he was transferred to the Carolina Hurricanes together with Ian White for Anton Babtschuk and Tom Kostopoulos .
On July 1, 2014, it was announced that Sutter had signed a two-year contract with the Minnesota Wild as a free agent . During the preparation for the 2014/15 season he was given to the Iowa Wild in the AHL. In February 2016, Sutter was transferred to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Scott Sabourin . There he was also used in the Ontario Reign farm team , where he received a contract limited to the AHL from the 2016/17 season. At the end of the 2018/19 season , the striker, who was appointed reign team captain before the 2017/18 season , received the Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award .
