history
The Abbotsford Heat were the AHL farm team of the Calgary Flames from the National Hockey League , after they had ended their cooperation with the previous farm team, the Quad City Flames , after the 2008/09 season due to unsuccessfulness and financial problems. The new name was officially announced on May 14, 2009. The new club had previously given fans the opportunity to choose the team's name on a website.
As head coach on June 5, 2009, the former coach of the Calgary Flames, Jim Playfair , was appointed. After his departure to the Phoenix Coyotes in late June 2011, his former assistant Troy Ward was promoted to head coach.
At the end of the 2013-14 season , the team left Abbotsford and was relocated to Glens Falls . There the team began playing under the name Adirondack Flames for the 2014/15 season , replacing the Adirondack Phantoms , the previous farm team of the Philadelphia Flyers . The Phantoms, in turn, were relocated to Allentown , Pennsylvania .
