Jeff Halper

Jeff Halper (* 1946 in Minnesota ) is an American- Israeli peace activist and author.

Halper worked as a professor of anthropology at the universities of Haifa and Beersheba . In 1997 he was a co-founder of the Israel Committee Against House Demolition (ICAHD). He is a key organizer of the Free Gaza Initiative and a member of the founding committee of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine . In 2006 he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by the American Friends Service Committee ; In 2009 he and Luís Flávio Cappio received the “Kant World Citizenship Prize” from the Freiburg Kant Foundation for “courageously advocating for politically and socially marginalized groups”. He is also a supporter of the BDS movement and also advocates the academic boycott of Israel that it includes.

Halper is the author of several books on the Middle East conflict and he writes and speaks often about Israeli politics; he mainly focuses on nonviolent strategies to resolve the conflict.
