Leland Irving (born April 11, 1988 in Barrhead , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with HC Bozen in the Austrian ice hockey league since 2018 .
Career
Leland Irving began his career as a hockey player with the Everett Silvertips , for which he was active from 2003 to 2008 in the Canadian Junior League Western Hockey League , in which he had an average of less than two goals per game in three seasons in which he was a regular goalkeeper . During his time with the Silvertips he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2006 in the first round as a total of 26th player by the Calgary Flames , for their farm team , the Quad City Flames , he made his debut in American hockey in the 2008/09 season League gave. In his rookie year in the AHL he had an average of 2.23 goals against and a catch rate of 91.2%.
From 2009, the Canadian was for Calgary's new AHL farm team Abbotsford Heat between the posts, where he also played eight games for the Victoria Salmon Kings in the ECHL in the 2009/10 season . In the 2010/11 season , Irving, who completed 61 games in the regular season and achieved a personal record with eight shutouts , prevailed as a regular goalkeeper in Abbotsford after being between the posts by David Shantz and Matt Keetley several times in the previous season had been represented. During the following season Irving made his debut for the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League . After Henrik Karlsson was transferred to the Chicago Blackhawks in January 2013 , the Canadian rose to become the Flames' back-up goalkeeper behind regular goalkeeper Miikka Kiprusoff .
After the 2012/13 season his contract with the Flames expired and Irving moved to Europe to Jokerit Helsinki from the Liiga in August 2013 . Between September 2014 and May 2015 he played for Salawat Yulayev Ufa in the Continental Hockey League , before he took part in the training camp of the Minnesota Wild in late summer 2015 , but received no contract. Instead, his farm team, the Iowa Wild , signed him before he spent the 2016/17 season at KooKoo in the Finnish league. Then Irving returned to North America by signing an AHL deal with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms . However, the Canadian gave this to the San Diego Gulls in October 2017 in return for Dustin Tokarski .
On June 22, 2018, Irving left North America as a free agent after signing an annual contract with the Italian club HCB Südtirol , which plays in the Austrian Hockey League (EBEL). On March 29, 2019 Irving extended his contract with Bolzano.
International
For Canada Irving took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2007 , where he was world champion with his team. As a substitute goalkeeper, however, he remained without use, as Carey Price played all games.

Irving is married to Ashley Irving and has a daughter with her.
