Patrick Wiercioch (born September 12, 1990 in Burnaby , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Bozen in the Austrian ice hockey league since December 2019 .
Career
Wiercioch was initially active from 2005 to 2006 for the Vancouver NE Attack from the lower class Canadian junior league BC Hockey Major Midget League . In the 2006/07 season he was on the ice for the Burnaby Express in the British Columbia Hockey League . The following season the Canadian spent with the Omaha Lancers in the United States Hockey League , with which the defender won the 2008 Clark Cup . Subsequently, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2008 in the second round at a total of 42nd position by the Ottawa Senators . Wiercioch then continued his career with a degree at the University of Denver and ran for their ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . In its inaugural season, the player, who was the best points defensive player at the University of Denver with 35 points in 36 encounters, was also honored with the nomination for the Second All-Star Team in addition to being elected to the league's all- rookie team . In his second season in the dress of the Pioneers , the two-way defender assumed a key position and filled a more defensive role compared to last year. His excellent performance was underpinned by his appointment to the League's First All-Star Team.
In March 2010, the Canadians signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators and made his debut in the 2010/11 season for their AHL - farm team , the Binghamton Senators , on a professional level. In the same season, on March 22, 2011, the Canadian played his first NHL game in the Ottawa Senators' jersey against the Carolina Hurricanes and by the end of the 2010/11 season had two assists in a total of eight appearances. The left shooter also won the Calder Cup with Binghamton .
In the middle of the 2012/13 season Wiercioch established himself in the NHL squad of the Senators and was a permanent member of their squad in the following years. He also won the gold medal with the national team at the 2015 World Cup .
After five years in Ottawa, Wiercioch did not receive a new contract from the Senators after the 2015/16 season, so he joined the Colorado Avalanche as a free agent in July 2016 . The same thing happened the following year when he joined the Vancouver Canucks in July 2017 . After he was only used in the AHL with the Utica Comets , the Canadian moved to HK Dinamo Minsk in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) in July 2018 . In the 2018/19 season he scored 25 points scorer in 59 KHL games for Dinamo Minsk.
