Daniel Catenacci (born March 9, 1993 in Richmond Hill , Ontario ) is an Italian - Canadian ice hockey player who has been playing in the center position at HC Bozen in the Austrian ice hockey league since July 2018 . His father Maurizio Catenacci was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Catenacci was ranked first in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection by Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and received the Jack Ferguson Award as a result. In his first season in the Ontario Hockey League , the center got 30 points, making him twelfth in the rookie scorer standings. In the 2010/11 season Catenacci was the best scorer of his team with 71 points from 67 games. After the season he took part in the Top Prospects Game of the Canadian Hockey League for Team Orr , where he won the Fastest Skater Competition .
In the 2011 NHL Entry Draft , Catenacci was selected in the third round in 77th place by the Buffalo Sabers . In August 2011 he was handed over by the Greyhounds to the Owen Sound Attack , where he finished the following two seasons as the second best and best scorer of his team. At the same time he collected more than 100 penalty minutes each.
For the 2013/14 season , Catenacci moved permanently to the Sabers farm team, the Rochester Americans , in the American Hockey League , where he had already made his professional debut at the end of the preseason. At the end of the 2015/16 season, Catenacci made his debut in the National Hockey League with the Sabers and came to eleven missions by the end of the season. After he subsequently exclusively for the Amerks had come in the AHL used, it was in February 2017 in exchange for Mat Bodie in the franchise of the New York Rangers transferred, where he in the squad of the farm teams Hartford Wolf Pack was made.
After the 2017/18 season, Catenacci decided to move to Europe and signed a contract with HC Bozen from the Austrian ice hockey league . On May 17th, 2019 it was announced that Catenacci would also play for HC Bozen in the 2019/20 season.
International
In 2010 Catenacci took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge for Team Canada Ontario , where he won the silver medal with the same. At the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament that same year he helped the team win the gold medal with four points from five games. He was also part of the Canadian selection, which finished fourth in the 2011 U18 World Junior Championship
