Wichheim Mill
The Wichheimer Mühle was a watermill in Cologne-Holweide on the Strunde .
history
So far there are no documents about the origin of the Wichheimer Mühle. A document from 1381 contains a reference that Ludwig von Menden and his wife sold the interest and rights to which they were entitled to the Mühl zu Wichheim to the All Saints Hospital . As a full mill and an oil mill , it was a compulsory mill for the residents who belonged to the Baron von Fürstenberg . The Mülheim merchant Heinrich Moll bought the mill in 1812 and rebuilt it. It performed its services until after the First World War . The undershot water wheel , which had meanwhile become rotten, was removed around 1934 and operation switched to electricity . It was a grain and feed mill for the local residents. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1961. They were rebuilt, but there were new fires. In 1972 the civil engineering contractor Franz Dresbach acquired the property, which had been owned by the City of Cologne since 1931 . An appealing residential ensemble has now been created here.
