The San Diego Gulls are an American ice hockey franchise based in San Diego , California . The team has played in the American Hockey League (AHL) since the 2015/16 season and acts as the Anaheim Ducks' farm team .

history

In January 2015, the American Hockey League announced an extensive restructuring for the 2015/16 season , as part of which a new Pacific Division was established and five teams relocated to California . One of these five teams was the Norfolk Admirals , who moved to San Diego and henceforth operate as the San Diego Gulls . The Anaheim Ducks remain the NHL cooperation partner. In addition, this is the fifth professional franchise to operate under this name in the city.

In June 2015, Dallas Eakins was named the Gulls' first head coach.
