The New Brunswick Hawks were a Canadian ice hockey franchise of the American Hockey League based in Moncton , New Brunswick . The Hawks' venue was the Moncton Coliseum .
history
The association was founded in 1978 and was henceforth the farm team of the Chicago Black Hawks and the Toronto Maple Leafs . The Hawks received the FG "Teddy" Oke Trophy twice when they were first in their division (1979/80, 1981/82). Their most successful season was the 1981/82 season, in which they were first in their division, as well as all teams in the regular season. In the playoffs they finally won the Calder Cup : In the final, they beat the Binghamton Whalers 4-1 in the best-of-seven series . In 1980, the New Brunswick Hawks failed in the finals with 2: 4 to the Hershey Bears .
In 1982 the Hawks were relocated from the Toronto Maple Leafs and renamed St. Catharines Saints . Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers established a new franchise in Moncton with the Moncton Alpines .
