history
The Fredericton Canadiens were relocated to Québec (City) , Québec , in 1999, where they played as the farm team of the Montréal Canadiens under the name Quebec Citadelles in the American Hockey League . In their very first season, the Citadelles were first in the Atlantic Division in the 1999/2000 season, but were eliminated in the first play-off round with 3-0 wins against the Providence Bruins . In the following season Quebec reached the second play-off round, in which it failed with 1: 4 wins at the Saint John Flames . This was the best result of the season for the team in their three-year existence. In their third and final AHL season, the Citadelles reached the playoffs in 2001/02, but were eliminated in the first round with a sweep in the best-of-five series against the Hamilton Bulldogs . After this season, the Quebec Citadelles were relocated to Hamilton , Ontario , where they competed as the Hamilton Bulldogs , as a joint farm team of the Edmonton Oilers and the Montréal Canadiens , after Edmonton wanted to relocate the Hamilton Bulldogs, but this was prevented by fan initiatives. Hamilton has been the sole farm team for the Montréal Canadiens since 2003.
