The Philadelphia Rockets were an American ice hockey franchise of the American Hockey League based in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . The venue for the Rockets was the Philadelphia Arena .
history
After the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League had ended their collaboration with the Philadelphia Ramblers from the American Hockey League in 1941 , they changed their name to Philadelphia Rockets. In their first season in the AHL, the Rockets only achieved 26 points from 56 games and the franchise was temporarily dissolved. The void the Rockets left in Philadelphia was subsequently filled by the Philadelphia Falcons, who served in the Eastern Hockey League from 1942 to 1946 . When the Rockets resumed play in the 1946/47 season, they again clearly missed the playoffs and only won 17 points in 64 games, which was one of the worst seasons of an AHL franchise ever. The playoffs were not reached in the following two years either, so the franchise was finally dissolved in 1949.
