The Binghamton Dusters were an American ice hockey franchise of the American Hockey League based in Binghamton , New York . The Dusters' venue was the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena .

history

After the North American Hockey League was dissolved in 1977, the owners of the Broome Dusters acquired the Rhode Island Reds from the American Hockey League and relocated them to Binghamton , New York , where they played as Binghamton Dusters in the AHL. The team's greatest success in the AHL was the playoff participation in the 1978/79 season, in which they were only defeated 2-4 in the semifinals of the New Haven Nighthawks in the best-of-seven series. In the other two seasons in the AHL, the Dusters missed the playoffs. After the 1979/80 season, the team was renamed Binghamton Whalers .
