North American Hockey League (Professional League)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The North American Hockey League ( NAHL for short ) was a professional North American ice hockey minor league .

In 1973 the league was brought into being, as well as the Southern Hockey League founded at the same time , it mainly took the teams of the abolished Eastern Hockey League into their game operations. The league's championship trophy was the Lockhart Cup , which was awarded to the winner of the play-offs at the end of the season. In addition, the league is considered one of the templates for the film Slap Shot (Original title: Slap Shot ) with Paul Newman and Michael Ontkean .

Except for the name, the league has nothing in common with the current US junior league, the North American Hockey League, and the Canadian Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey .
