Canadian Professional Hockey League

The Canadian Professional Hockey League (Canpro) was a professional North American ice hockey league founded in 1926. After three seasons, the league became the International Hockey League . The name "Canadian Professional Hockey League" was eventually used for a new league of IHL farm teams , which only existed in the 1929/30 season.

Canpro League (1926-1929)

On June 27, 1926, a meeting was held in Hamilton , Ontario to establish a new professional league. Due to disputes with their association, the Ontario Hockey Association , seven OHA members decided to create a professional league that should be closely linked to the National Hockey League . Although Brantford and Toronto were at the founding meeting, both teams could not come to an agreement with the other. The remaining five teams became the founding members of the new CPHL. These were Hamilton, London, Niagara Falls, Stratford and Windsor. Charles King of Windsor was named president of the league on August 4, and he led the league for the three years of its existence.

During the annual general meeting in September 1929, King was re-elected as president and the league was renamed the International Hockey League .

Canpro League (1929-1930)

Teddy Oke ensured that the Canadian Professional Hockey League remained in Ontario even after the International Hockey League was founded . For this reason, it was decided to fill the league with farm teams from the IHL teams in order to establish themselves over other leagues. In the 1929/30 season, however, the league consisted of only four teams (from Kitchener , Galt , Guelph and Brantford ).

The league president was Robert Dawson from Guelph. The league was dissolved in this form after one season, since Galt and Guelph joined the Ontario Professional Hockey League .
