Sunshine Hockey League
The Sunshine Hockey League (in 1995/96 Southern Hockey League ) was a Hockey - Minor League in the southern United States . It existed from 1992 to 1996.
history
The league was initially founded under the name Sunshine Hockey League , based on the nickname of Florida as the Sunshine State , where all teams had their headquarters, but changed this to the Southern Hockey League for the 1995/96 season , after teams outside Florida had also moved to the League were included. The name was chosen based on an ice hockey league of the same name that existed from 1973 to 1977.
After several SHL teams switched to the Central Hockey League or started playing in this instead of the SHL, the Southern Hockey League was stopped in 1996.
