The 1995/96 season was the fourth and final regular season of the Southern Hockey League (until 1995 Sunshine Hockey League ). During the regular season, the six teams played 60 games each. In the play-offs, the Huntsville Channel Cats prevailed and won the first Sunshine Cup in their club's history.
Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Fresno Falcons stopped playing.
- The Huntsville Channel Cats were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Winston-Salem Mammoths were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Daytona Beach Sun Devils changed their name to Daytona Beach Breakers.
- The Lakeland Ice Warriors changed their name to Lakeland Prowlers.
- The West Palm Beach Blaze changed their name to West Palm Beach Barracudas.
