The 1995/96 season was the eighth regular season of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). The 21 teams completed 70 matches each in the regular season . The team with the highest points in the regular season were the Richmond Renegades , while the Charlotte Checkers won their first ever Riley Cup in the play-offs .
Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Louisville Icehawks were relocated to Jacksonville , Florida and played under the name Jacksonville Lizard Kings from then on .
- The Greensboro Monarchs stopped playing because the Carolina Monarchs were a successor team in the American Hockey League .
- The Louisiana IceGators were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Louisville River Frogs were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Mobile Mysticks were added to the league as an expansion team.
