The 2005/06 season was ECHL's 18th regular season . The 25 teams completed 72 games each in the regular season . The team with the highest points in the regular season were the Alaska Aces , who subsequently won their first ever Kelly Cup in the play-offs .

Team changes

The following changes were made before the start of the season:

• The Phoenix RoadRunners were added to the league as an expansion team.
• The Utah Grizzlies were added to the league as an expansion team.
• The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies were relocated to Stockton , California , where they then played under the name Stockton Thunder .
• The Mississippi Sea Wolves had to suspend play this season as their stadium was badly damaged by Hurricane Katrina .
• The Texas Wildcatters had to suspend play this season, as their stadium was badly damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
• The Louisiana IceGators ceased gaming.
• The Pee Dee Pride stopped playing.
• The Peoria Rivermen stopped playing because they were replaced by a franchise of the same name from the American Hockey League .
