The 2015/16 season was the 28th season of the ECHL . All 28 teams played 72 games each in the regular season, which was played from October 16, 2015 to April 9, 2016. The best points team of the regular season were the Missouri Mavericks , which won the Henry Brabham Cup . This was followed by the playoffs for the Kelly Cup , which, as in the previous year, was won by the Allen Americans . As in the previous season, the 2015/16 season was accompanied by major restructuring .
Team changes
All changes are due to the reorganization of the American Hockey League , which introduced a new Pacific Division and therefore the ECHL franchises from California swapped places with corresponding AHL teams.
- The Bakersfield Condors henceforth operate as Norfolk Admirals .
- The Ontario Reign are renamed the Manchester Monarchs .
- The Stockton Thunder are now called the Adirondack Thunder .
In addition, two teams from the South Division changed their names:
- The Greenville Road Warriors are henceforth active as Greenville Swamp Rabbits .
- The Gwinnett Gladiators now operate as Atlanta Gladiators .
mode
The four divisions introduced only a year earlier have now become six; the division into two conferences was retained. The first division in each division and the five other teams with the highest points in each conference qualify for the playoffs. In addition, 3-on-3 overtime was introduced (based on the AHL and NHL) , which is played for a full five minutes before a shootout occurs.
