David Makowski (born August 19, 1989 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American ice hockey player who is used in the position of defender . After numerous successes in US minor leagues , he played in 2016 for the Hungarian club Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in the multinational Erste Bank Ice Hockey League (EBEL) before finishing the season with the Allen Americans in the ECHL . In July 2017 he was signed for two games by San Jose Barracuda and moved back to the Allen Americans in September 2018.

Career

David Makowski attended Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis and the University of Denver . He played 2007/08 for the St. Louis Bandits in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), where he was able to win the championship with the team and was elected to the First All-Rookie team. He had achieved 20 points in the main round and a positive plus / minus balance of +22.

From 2008 to 2010 he played for the Green Bay Gamblers in the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he achieved a plus / minus balance of +23 and 29 points in the main round in 2008/09 and made it into the All-Star Game was chosen. In 2009/10 he won the championship title with the team and distinguished himself as the top scorer of all defenders in the league, without neglecting his defensive qualities (+22). This earned him the award as the best defender in the league, as well as the nomination for the First All-Star Team and again for the All-Star Game.

During his time at the University of Denver, he played for the Denver Pioneers in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) from 2010 to 2014 . He ended every season on a positive note, was one of the best players in his conference and won the 2014 championship of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) as team captain .

From 2014 to 2016 he played for the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League (AHL) and for the Wheeling Nailers and Allen Americans in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). He won the championship with the Americans in 2016 and was also the defender with the most goals in the league.

Then Makowski moved to Europe and received a contract with Alba Volán Székesfehérvár from the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League. After two months, he moved back to the Allen Americans in December 2016 and played 47 games, reaching 55 points. For December he was elected ECHL Plus Performer .

In July 2017, Makowski was signed by the AHL's San Jose Barracudas and played two games before moving back to the Allen Americans in September 2018. At the end of the season he was the second strongest defender in the league with 54 points and was chosen as the only American player in the ECHL First All-Star team.
