Casey Pierro-Zabotel (born November 8, 1988 in Kamloops , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Colorado Eagles in the ECHL since August 2016 .
Career
Casey Pierro-Zabotel began his career as a hockey player with the Merritt Centennials in the Canadian junior ice hockey league, the British Columbia Hockey League . In the NHL Entry Draft 2007 he was selected in the third round in a total of 80th position by the Pittsburgh Penguins . During his fourth junior season, he moved at the age of 20 to the Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League , one of the three highest Canadian junior leagues that make up the Canadian Hockey League . There he played his most successful season in the 2008/09 season, when Pierro-Zabotel scored 36 goals and 79 assists in 72 games in the regular season. His 115 scorer points were the most in the league , for which he was awarded the Bob Clarke Trophy as the best point collector in the Western Hockey League. Within the Canadian Hockey League, only Yannick Riendeau from the Drummondville Voltigeurs from the Québec Major Junior Hockey League was more successful, who scored 126 points and accordingly won the CHL Top Scorer Award . In the playoffs Pierro-Zabotel reached the conference finals with the Vancouver Giants, in which the team was defeated in six encounters by the later Ed Chynoweth Cup winner Kelowna Rockets .
With the beginning of the 2009/10 season he made the leap to the Wheeling Nailers in the third-class ECHL . Already in the following season he had some appearances in the team of the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League , the second highest division. In the following years he played for the cooperation partner of the Penguins, the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL, who transferred him to the Cincinnati Cyclones and the Bakersfield Condors for one season each . Another station was the Gwinnett Gladiators in the 2012/13 season . In 2013 he was hired by the Charlotte Checkers for five games in the AHL due to an injury-related absence . At the end of the 2012/13 season, the Canadian, who was the fifth best scorer of the regular season in the league, was elected to the ECHL First All-Star Team.
In 2013 Casey Pierro-Zabotel ventured to move to Europe; for one season he signed a contract with the Lausitzer Füchsen from Weißwasser . However, at his request, the contract was terminated in December of the same year. Since then he has played continuously for various ECHL teams.
