The Greenville Swamp Rabbits are an American ice hockey franchise based in Greenville , South Carolina . It has played in the ECHL since the 2010/11 season . A cooperation in the National Hockey League exists with the Carolina Hurricanes .
history
The Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL were 2,010 to Greenville, South Carolina, relocated and renamed the Greenville Road Warriors. The cause of the relocation was a $ 100,000 annual loss and increased rental costs for the Cambria County War Memorial Arena . In Greenville, the Road Warriors fill the void that was created in 2006 with the disappearance of the Greenville Grrrowl . On June 29, 2010, former professional ice hockey player and assistant coach for the Cincinnati Cyclones , Dean Stork , was officially introduced as the franchise's first head coach.
In the first season 2010/11 you were directly the point best main round team of the Eastern Conference of this league and in the 2013/14 season the Warriors were subject to the Cincinnati Cyclones in the playoffs in the Eastern Conference final .
In August 2015, the name of the franchise was changed to its current name, alluding to the Swamp Rabbit Trail running in the area . It is a network of hiking trails that runs on disused railroad tracks and that got its name from the swamp rabbit that lives there .
From 2010 to 2018 there was a cooperation with the NHL team New York Rangers and their AHL partner the Hartford Wolf Pack . With Brandon Halverson, Mackenzie Skopski and Cam Talbot , three players from Greenville made it to the NHL. At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, a cooperation with the Carolina Hurricanes was entered into.
