The Greensboro Generals were an American ice hockey franchise based in Greensboro , North Carolina . The General's venue was the Greensboro Coliseum .

history

The franchise was founded in 1999 and started its gaming operations in the ECHL. Head coach was Jeff Brubaker , who played in the NHL during his playing career. The Generals achieved 47 points in 70 games in their inaugural season, placing them last in the Northeast Division. In the following season the results improved, but the Generals were still far from reaching the play-offs with 59 points. The 2001/02 season ended just as disappointingly and the play-offs took place again without the generals. The 2002/03 season went down in history as the best in the franchise. The generals achieved 93 points in the regular season, which led to their first entry into the play-offs. In the first round they defeated the Roanoke Express in four games before they were defeated in the second round by the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies in four games. This marked the greatest success in the history of the franchise. The 2003/04 season closed the Generals in fifth place in the Southern Division. With 82 points in the regular season, the play-offs were narrowly missed, the qualified South Carolina Stingrays one point more was enough for a place in the finals. The franchise was subsequently dissolved.
