history

The franchise was founded in 1997 and began playing in the East Coast Hockey League . The head coach was Ted Sator , who had previously led the two National Hockey League teams New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabers as head coach . In their first season, the Brass qualified for the play-offs. In the first round, the team lost four games against the Pensacola Ice Pilots and was eliminated from the competition.

In the following season, they made it to the finals again. In the first two rounds, the team prevailed against the Jacksonville Lizard Kings and Louisiana IceGators , before being eliminated in four games against Pee Dee Pride in the semifinals of the Southern Conference .
