The Huntsville Blast were an American ice hockey franchise from Huntsville , Alabama that played in the East Coast Hockey League from 1993 to 1994 . The Blast played their home games at the Von Braun Center .
history
The franchise was founded in 1993 as the successor to the Roanoke Valley Rampage , which had moved to Huntsville , and began playing in the East Coast Hockey League . Head coach was the Canadian Steve Gatzos , who was replaced during the season by the Italian Victor Posa . In their only season, the team qualified for the play-offs, although they had a negative record with 20 wins and 39 losses in the regular season . In the first round, the team lost in three games against the Birmingham Bulls and was eliminated from the competition. Shortly thereafter, the franchise was dissolved and relocated to Tallahassee , Florida . The Tallahassee Tiger Sharks emerged as the successor team .
