The Baton Rouge Kingfish were an American ice hockey team from Baton Rouge , Louisiana . The team played in the East Coast Hockey League from 1996 to 2003 .
history
The Erie Panthers from the East Coast Hockey League were relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1996 and renamed Baton Rouge Kingfish. After a fan vote, the name Kingfish was chosen based on the former Governor of Louisiana Huey Pierce Long , whose nickname was The Kingfish . The team's most successful season was in the 1998/99 season, when they first beat Augusta Lynx after finishing sixth in the Southwest Division in the regular season in the playoffs for the Kelly Cup , before they only beat the Pee Dee in the second round Pride subject. Then the Kingfish never got beyond the first playoff round.
There was a great rivalry with the Louisiana IceGators , which were based in the immediate vicinity , but whose sporting success and popularity were never matched. Therefore, the franchise was withdrawn from the game operations by its owners for the 2003/04 season. After a year of inactivity, they finally relocated the team to the Canadian city of Victoria , the capital of British Columbia , where it took part in ECHL's gaming operations from 2004 to 2011 under the name Victoria Salmon Kings .
