The Peoria Rivermen were an American ice hockey franchise of the East Coast Hockey League based in Peoria , Illinois . Their home ground was the Carver Arena .
history
From 1984 to 1996 a franchise of the same name played in the International Hockey League . After this was after the 1995/96 season to San Antonio , Texas , relocated and renamed San Antonio Dragons , it was decided to continue the tradition of the Peoria Rivermen one league lower in the East Coast Hockey League . In the ECHL, Peoria's greatest achievement was winning the Kelly Cup , the league's championship title, in the 1999/2000 season .
After the Worcester IceCats were relocated to Peoria from the higher-class American Hockey League in 2005 , the ECHL team stopped playing and the tradition of the Peoria Rivermen was continued in the AHL from the 2005/06 season .
