The Oklahoma State Fair Arena (short: State Fair Arena ) is a multi-purpose arena in the city of Oklahoma City in the US state of Oklahoma . Opened in 1965, the building is owned by the city, part of the Oklahoma State Fair Park, and is nicknamed The Big House . Depending on the event, it offers up to 10,944 seats. When it opened, the hall was named James Norick State Fair Arena , after Oklahoma City's mayor at the time.
Oklahoma State Fair Arena is the city's third largest event venue after Oklahoma City Arena and the Cox Convention Center . From 1965 to 1977 the arena was home to the Oklahoma City Blazers from the Central Hockey League . In addition, the state high school basketball playoffs hosted in the hall .
Today the arena is mainly used for rodeos , horse shows and other equestrian events. These include the AQHA World Show, the second largest equestrian event and breeding show for American Quarter Horses in the world, and the NRHA Futurity, the world's largest equestrian event for the reining discipline .
In 2005 the Oklahoma State Fairpark and its buildings were renovated.
